I've stated before and still believe that the best traffic situation in the Wasatch Front is Salt Lake City proper...

Once you get north or south traffic gets crowded and slows way down relative to SLC. Getting to/from downtown from most of SLC is pretty quick and easy. Getting around downtown is pretty quick and easy. When I visit I pretty much stay in and around SLC for this reason.

The thanksgiving point exit is horrendous. Especially during morning, lunch and afternoon traffic hours.
