If you knew that they previously paid you and you cashed that check, and then
spent it, they will come after you for the money.
My Dad worked for a major International Business Company and there was a major mistake made in employee checks. One lady got tens of thousands more than she should have, and she was required to pay it all back since she knew that it was a mistake, and she had already spent thousands when they required payback.
