Obviously everyone is enamored with Taysom as a master-of-all-trades, but hasn't he had too few live reps at the QB position for an NFL team to actually evaluate him? It's one thing for the Saints to make that decision based on what they see from him in practice, but another for a team to take a risk based on what they've seen on film. It would be a huge risk. Payton could very well just be trying to talk up Taysom's price.
Best case scenario for Taysom is that Drew Brees decides to stay another year and the Saints give Taysom meaningful QB2 reps instead of throwing him around to different position groups with the plan of him taking over for Brees the following year. I think it's apparent that the Saints don't want to pay for Brees and Teddy Bridgewater. But if Brees decides to retire, I don't know what they'll do.
