I work in public health and get daily updates from John Hopkins and CDC
Here’s the takeaway right now
1. John Hopkins latest surveillance seems to indicate that the peak has passed. We will now see a decrease in cases in China.
2. Death tolls are high in China because health care is overloaded. They are not prepared for an outbreak
3. Death rate outside of China is under 1%. With adequate health care this is not that virulent.
4. Everyone keeps mentioning that China is holding numbers. The data outside of China seems to show that they are not.
5. With it being a novel virus, it is still something to monitor closely
