Here is my analysis on why it was confusing...
The indigenous people have to be trapped in an enchanted forest as well, even though they didn't start the conflict?

Anna and Elsa's grandpa goes to all the trouble of building a dam, then starts to slaughter the indigenous people out of nowhere. That escalated quickly.

Before Elsa turns into a popsicle, she makes an ice sculpture for Anna, and Anna is supposed to deduce from that one sculpture that the dam should be broken?

The elements are all things without a body, except the gecko, who just appears to be cute and doesn't really know what is going on.

Elsa is the fifth element? That's like that terrible Bruce Willis movie from the 90's.

Lastly, it seems like the whole point in fixing everything was that Arandelle would pay for the mistakes of the past by being flooded from the dam, but Elsa saves the day and somehow makes all that water disappear, thus nullifying all the stakes in the movie.

I could keep going, but yes...dumb and unnecessarily confusing.
