In your SIL's defense, is she talking about Type 1?
It's a legitimate frustration when people ask us if my daughter had too much juice as a child, or if she really likes candy, when they find out she's diabetic. Like we broke our child.
Sugar in no way, shape, or form causes Type 1 diabetes. It's not commonly known and we are regularly having to explain the difference to people.
