I think the opposite could be true. I won't be at all surprised if he turns out
to be the one who is primarily responsible for her kid's disappearances, and maybe her brother's death. His wife's death is the fishiest event in the whole chain, maybe with the exception of whatever has happened to the kids. I think he is probably influencing and manipulating her.
