The Roof is a fun place to eat because of the views. I'd suggest that before
the Lion House.
More casually, people like this often really enjoy popular places that are considered long over-hyped or tired by local foodies. For example, Cafe Rio could be fun if they've never been there and eaten their pork burrito.
New York has plenty of great places to eat. Restaurants that are popular here for having great foreign food might not seem that great to people from more diverse cities. Texmex is a western/utahn specialty.
