It literally starts in pre-school.
I lived there with a couple kids in pre-school and the Texas pride started then, including pledges to the Texas flag. I loved it.
Having a strong pride in yourself and your people is a great way to live. Much better than the self loathing that seems to dominate much of U.S. culture today.
