That isn't entirely true.
An element of it is true - for sure.

But in a conversation I had at the beginning of this with a State Rep he mentioned that people at the capital are worried about how this will impact the state's finances and budget.

I suppose you could say the Governor doesn't care - in Utah at least - because he isn't running for re-election. But political folks are more worried than they're letting on.

I would also say that for the folks with the ultimate say - like the president and governors - their "skin" revolves around their legacy and how they are seen. Even more than their concern for themselves financially, they worry about how they will be viewed by history.

Now - I think that this can potentially lead to some bad decisions as they weigh matters and determine which route to take. But that's no different than many business owners who, at a crossroads, pick a direction for their business that ultimately leads to success and failure.

I just don't think it's fair to say "They're going to get paid either way - so they don't care what happens here."

I don't think that gives them enough credit.
