I ditched the crappy router Verizon provides and got a Ubiquiti USG and one of their WAPs, too. It covers my whole townhouse, and I get ~300mb/s.
Starting Tuesday I noticed my connection would drop out for a few seconds, then come back. Not noticeable during web use or that sort of thing, but during videoconferences and streaming it would become obvious. Yesterday I started poking around (was worried my cheap gigabit switch between the router and the WAP was failing) and realized I had some crap cabling in my basement "network wall". Replaced two of the cables with old spares from our datacenter from a few years ago and problem solved.
