The disease is just a common flu, but I don't see how shutting down our economy and likely damaging it for months if not years if this continues while also having healthcare slammed anyways despite efforts is better than social distancing but without authoritarian mandated shut downs.
High risk populations should definitely social distance/quarantine as much as possible. But is it worth mandating small businesses shut down, many of which will lose their business if this continues? People were already social distancing and restaraunt/bar traffic was significantly lower, why mandate basically putting them out of business? It seems like madness to me.
There will likely be thousands of suicides due to economic fallout. Millions of people will be affected by losing jobs, businesses, homes, retirement, savings, etc. More kids will go hungry, families will be torn apart. These impacts will last much longer than this virus "cure" and do much more damage unless it is ended soon imo.
