It is believed that the Coronavirus uses the ACE2 which is expressed on the cell
Membranes in the lungs to gain access into the cell. Hydroxychloroquine blocks ACE2 thus inhibiting the entry of the virus into the cell.
On a side note NSAIDS (ibuprofen,Aleve, etc) is thought to increase ACE2. That is why it is believed that taking NSAIDS during a COVID-19 infection can make the illness worse.
