The question is also; would these people have died from the virus had they
not had lung disease, heart disease, diabetes, etc. It's pretty reasonable to say they probably would have had a much better chance at survival.
Hence the reevaluation mentioned in the article shows that really only 12% of deaths were directly attributed to the virus and 88% the virus was only a contributing factor.
