The history is interesting, and there have been a few good folks in that family. Some disasters, too. I respect QEII,
and her father seemed a good chap. Although I'd never recommend monarchy for a country just starting out, I can see how the Brits benefit from their current arrangement. The people's representatives make all of the decisions, but they also have a head of state that stays out of politics that can act as a unifying figure. QEII is mostly loved, so it works. We'll see what happens when the whole show passes on to Charles. And, of course, the current monarchy tends to draw one's attention to England's rich and colorful history, and it draws tourists like crazy.
