On a more serious note, it does probably make sense to remind your friends and
family, especially if you have elderly parents or grandparents, that the odds are good they will encounter someone trying to use the current conditions in the US to scam them. Scammers and identity thieves drool at the opportunity out there. Specifically, I can see widespread scams of making calls claiming to be the IRS or Treasury Department trying to verify information so that they can mail or direct deposit their coronavirus relief checks.

There's so much confusion and anxiety out there. Then you add on a new massive government program where the uneducated, elderly, and poor are getting money from the government, the opportunities for scammers are endless. Remind those who are at risk to never trust a phone call or email. Any official communication from the government will always come via letter.
