I broke my collarbone in a flag football game a few years ago
Note I’m not a doctor nor did I stay at Holliday Inn.

TLDR: Waiting overnight for me was pretty painful, but I didn’t have an pain killers. Swelling is what caused the most issues.

I broke my collarbone diving for a sack in intramurals (I got him). Rolled funny felt a crunch. Two of my athletic training student friends took a look since they were there. One said he didn’t think anything was wrong. The other said she thought I’d broken it. (I ended up marrying her).

I didn’t feel too bad, so I helped my ward move someone and I participated like normal. By the time I got home and sat for a bit, I couldn’t lift my arm to take off my shirt. I had some crazy swelling that night. Like grotesque.

Went to the BYU urgent care, they took an X-ray and said I had a green stick fracture. Sling for three weeks and I should be good to go.

I did it for three weeks either in a sling or holding my arm up and in. Got very good at cooking and using the bathroom one handed. Try using a can opener one handed though. Can’t be done. Had to use to both. Painful. Only time I ever shed tears over a can of spaghettios.

After the three weeks I went back to normal. Felt sharp pains but I pushed through. Then it started really hurting. So I went back to the health center. Another x ray. Dr there was confused at why I was told it was a green stick fracture. Those only happen in young kids.

So I was given an industrial strength sling and told to wear it for three months. That was long. Got REALLY good at living one handed.
