For those who are looking for work, which industries and skills do you think are
the most relevant in the world that will emerge from this crisis? Which skill sets will be growing in demand moving forward? It's obvious that there will always be a need for skilled medical professionals. We will always need food and other goods, so companies like Amazon will continue to do well. What are some other areas people should focus on? Based on your experiences, what would you tell an incoming college student to study? What skills would you tell a recently unemployed worker to focus on obtaining?

For my career, I do data analytics. I use Tableau, Alteryx, Snowflake, Looker, and other tools to help companies to better work with and understand their data. I feel like my industry and skillset are pretty relevant right now, and that will continue to be the case moving forward. I might lose my job in all of this too, but I'm pretty confident in my ability find another job, and make money with the skills that I have. I think an added benefit is that data science/analytics is a field without much of a barrier to entry - smart people with the skills companies want can often prove those skills without a lot of schooling or accreditation.

I don't think that recessions are necessarily a bad thing for people early enough in their careers to pivot to industries that are growing more quickly than others. The last one in 2008 caused me to leave the newspaper industry, which was a dying industry, and move into more of a tech-focused career path. I then got an MBA from BYU which was a game changer for me career-wise. Recessions provide a great opportunity to evaluate your skills and seek out new ones.

I think CB as a whole has some of the best information when people choose to provide serious advice. I'm curious to hear what everyone else's thoughts are on this topic. Also, feel free to reach out to me if you think I might be able to help any of you out at all.
