CoachSpeak Intervention Needed
It's not petty, it is a big deal...
and it would absolutely suck for him if that is what happens. My son never got to start until his Sr year, similar situation with the coach playing the kid a year older but my son worked and prepared and got that Sr season and it was a fantastic experience for us when he finally got to do it. I think if your son misses out on that then it is a big deal and a huge letdown for a kid that has worked hard and bided his time and waited for his opportunity.

I don't know how this will all play out for recruiting and signing purposes for college football, I fear what may wind up happening is that college guys will get granted an extra year of eligibility if the season is cancelled and next years group of HS sr's will pay the price for that. Obviously the guys who have already started and are known studs will still get signed but I think schools will simply pass on singing large numbers of kids because they will have guys returning that would have otherwise graduated so those kids that weren't the top recruits but would have still gotten opportunities now will not because of a lack of scholarships.

That said I can give you a little bit of hope provided the season does in fact get played. As I said above my son did not start until his sr year. He only attended one camp before his Sr year because he also played baseball and just didn't have the time, and he only attended a couple of schools camps the summer before his Sr year and he still wound up with dbl digit offers and signed with an FBS school so it can still happen. So let's hope the season gets played so your son can show what he is capable of, and even if college football isn't in his future at least be able to have that Sr year he's worked so hard to earn.

I'm hoping for it for both him and you.
