that's true if we can push out some number of infections beyond the date when
an effective treatment (effective, meaning it would save a life that otherwise wouldn't be saved) or vaccine becomes available.

But if we flatten the curve from, say 3 months out to 9 or 10 months, that seems unlikely. Seems like we'd have to push out a significant number of infections to over 12 months for that to be meaningful. And I don't see that happening. In fact, it seems like we're seeing "peaks" (the top of the curve) pretty early.
