What are you trying to do?
1. Protect your home and family from intruders?
2. Fight in an urban battle?
3. Assault a defended structure?
4. Fight at distance?
5. Defend a piece of property?
It kind of depends on what scenario you are trying to use the weapon for.

From what I understand, you can bring your gun back to California unless it's on the banned list.

not at all. i just wish people had to get somewhat 'certified' before they could just buy one and have it in the home

It's always good to have a government official approve a constitutional right 😉

All of those! I am interested in what weapon you would use for each?

In side the home: a good handgun, outside: a good AR

I think a tank would check most of those

Pretty clear from the OP that he is intending to assault a defended structure.

You have to have it shipped to a Federal Firearns licensed dealer in CA

You can buy rifles or shotguns. Not handguns.

As a California resident, you can't buy a handgun in Utah. So only rifle or

This is not true. As a California resident you cannot purchase any firearm

What happens if you move into CA with firearms that you already own?

If you take residency in CA and you're not in the military or law enforcement

60 days. You can import handguns that are not "assault weapons."

I was talking about Utah law; long gun sales to nonresidents is legal here
