Because in an attempt to keep people from hoarding them, the media and the

public health establishment gaslighted everyone by claiming they didn't help prevent infections. Which was ludicrous, or else why would doctors and nurses want to wear them during an epidemic?

It's going to take a while for public health authorities to regain their credibility on this issue.
