To go back and see how innovative and creative the coaching was on both sides of the ball. The coaches were very smart and prepared but not only that they were very good at catching Miami off guard with their play calling. They seemingly surprised them with plays Miami seemed to not be expecting over and over again, with the plays called at the right time.
There were also timely blitzes that came from different areas and other changes on the D line to match up with what Miami was trying to do.
Also, Ty Detmer was absolutely incredible.
I had forgotten somewhat just how tough he was.
The coaches were so business like and seemed prepared to respond to any scenario. The defense was tough and the offense didn’t even flinch when Miami scored. It seemed to actually inspire BYU and motivate them to respond and they did!
This was typical of those teams back then not just in the Miami game. It was a thing of beauty!
Fun to have the time to go back and watch some of the great games i haven’t watched for awhile.
Only 3 so far, Miami, the San Diego state shoot out that ended in a tie when they had Faulk and the Texas AM game when we had Itula Mili and Chad Lewis etc. (that team was loaded)! Kansas State in the Cotton bowl is up next! So fun to watch!
