Said basically their initial guidance on mask wearing was based on a lack of
evidence that they helped in protection from infection. It was based on the best evidence at the time. But "recent" evidence suggests otherwise. Lol. The guidance was always based on their fear that recommending masks would cause a run on N95 and other masks used and needed by medical personnel.
