It is not just the immediate human toll of emotional pain and distress. It is that the economy fails to function at all! Simple things that are assumed to work no longer exist. The supply chain is broken!

Add to that the psychology of fear that will permeate society. Who will go to restaurants if they fear getting sick? Who will go to college? Ball games? Schools? How is this fear of social gathering going to be fixed? It won't as long as our "leaders" are preaching it!

This is a destruction of our society and it is based on irrational fear. Yes, COVID is real. But 99.9% of Americans are sure to survive it. But rather then accept this bad outcome, our leaders are pushing for a worse result where every aspect of our society and social order will be damaged.
