I watched "the Scheme" on HBO - on the paying coaches scandal - No Spoilers
I don't want to spoil anything because I think you should watch it.

I also think a lot information was left out. In fact I think the thing I learned most was that College basketball was certainly protected in this investigation.

I'm around a lot of basketball players who sign with DI schools. They've told me over the years that "Everyone" gets paid and the AAU system is a huge part of the corruption. I've believed them but at the same time I've tried not to believe them.

But I'm not sure still. Based on the hints from this film I'm thinking maybe 100 kids a class get paid but only some- say the top 20 - are paid a lot of money. Obviously the coaches are aware of these payments and appreciate being beneficiaries of these payments. It's also obvious that there is a bidding war going on for some of these athletes - where coaches or most likely boosters or other representatives are putting up some big time cash to land certain players.

I walked away thinking - maybe the NCAA doesn't need to pay players. The NCAA knows they are already getting paid.
