I heard that early on when tests were scarce if a person had symptoms consistent
with COVID-19 they diagnosed them presumptively as COVID- even without the test. Why waste a test when you have all the symptoms and the patient on the vent or in ICU? My guess is there are a bunch of patients who were diagnosed this way and never went back to test them.
