There are a lot of tech companies hiring right now, both because they're doing well (Overstock is killing it, from what I hear) and because they're very forward thinking and looking to add talent that they might otherwise struggle to acquire.

None of what he does now will be wasted effort, either, even if his prior employer comes calling later.
