They really were a fun, great team. It isn't easy for any team to have an undefeated regular season.
I was traveling to Idaho from Arizona for Christmas while listening to the bowl game with Indiana. It was one of the most frustrating BYU games I've ever listened to. The team just could not seem to get into sync. Penalties, dropped balls and sloppy play. Still, BYU had a chance to win the game in the closing seconds. A short field goal was missed badly, which seemed to kind of sum up that game.
I'll never believe Indiana was the better team. It just wasn't BYU's night. There was no indoor practice facility then for practice, but I doubt Indiana had one either. The bowl games in those days were seen by the BYU coaches as a reward for the team. Later, they were taken more seriously. I'm sure the guys were trying hard to win. Just seemed like Indiana wanted it more.
