We catch them in a box first. Sometimes I use my bee vaccum. (great tool for
problematic swarms. Typically, we wait and go pick them up after dark when the bees are all inside if we use a box. Put a screen over the hole and drive them to my house. Monitor them to ensure the queen is strong and laying a good volume and pattern, then sell.

If it is a mated queen (first swarm to leave), it typically only takes a week. If it is a virgin queen, it typically takes 3-4 weeks and weekly monitoring.

It feels good to save the bees. I understand that they only survive 25% of the time when they go out on their own.

I transfer the five frames from my more permanent setting into custom made waxed OCC (think rain) boxes, with a cap over the hole. People come to my house and take the box home, and put the frames into their hive.
