And I really don't think more money for coaches would change much in terms of football wins and losses.
More money for coaches doesn't suddenly give BYU the stability of a power conference.
It doesn't magically improve recruiting by making the honor code go away.
It doesn't improve recruiting by reducing the academic standard for football players.
It doesn't reduce the amount of travel that is expected of the football team from September- November.
I think independence is the best place for the program right now because the team gets to at least play a schedule that matters, and until proven otherwise, I don't think another coach could do much better, given the circumstances.
If BYU has an injury-free season with upper class men in key positions, a special season is possible. If not, the program is just going to continue to be good- not great.
