McClung showed at Georgetown that he is a potent scorer (he averaged 15.7 points in just 26.9 minutes as a sophomore) but he has yet to show strong shooting efficiency, as he shot just 39.4% from the field and 32.3% from deep last season.
It is for this reason that I'm sure the name Alex Barcello has come up quite a bit in Pope's pitch to McClung. In 51 career game appearances at Arizona, Barcello shot very similar percentages as McClung: 39.2% from the field and 29.7% on 3-pointers. Barcello's junior season shooting percentages in Pope's system: 49.3% overall and 48.6% from downtown. Jake Toolson's three point shooting also went up in Pope's BYU offense: from 69 makes at 44.8% as a junior at UVU, to 85 makes at a 47.0% clip at BYU.
McClung is a career 80.0% free throw shooter, he has the ability to shoot much better percentages in a better system. Come to Provo Mac! Let Pope's system make you an even more efficient and potent scorer than you already are!
