The biggest difference between basketball and football is the impact one or two
Great players can have. You need to recruit 20-30 top tier guys to be competitive in football (minimum), in basketball a trio of studs can take you a long way.

Conference is way down the list on what makes a successful coach. So many things would have a bigger impact.
