They still use Vandenburg for several launches, Sattelite phones
The sattelite constellation that is used with Iridium Sattelite phones is extremely pricey, but it serves a niche market and the 80 or so Satelites all launched with polar orbits or Sunsychronous orbits.

*PS Sattelite phones still cost a fortune , with the most common plans giving 100 minutes for about $100 per month.

Vandenburg is great for polar and sunsychronous orbits as neither of them will benefit from the rotational speed of the earth, so launching east and west does not play into the equation. In addition, launch failure in Florida heading south would crash into Venezuela or Peru. But launching south of Lompoc California, there are a couple uninhabited islands. But overall it is very safe location.

Other good locations for Polar and Sun Synchronous Orbit would be Hawaii, Alaska, and Possibly Maine. But due to advantages in weather, ease of transportation to California (vs Hawaii) and the pre-built infrastructure, it is safe to say that America will likely always use Vandenburg for these launches.

Little about me, my dream was to have a family, raise them right, and then when I turn 60-65 years old I would be a space colonist on the moon or Mars, and essentially live out the rest of my life in space. So I looked into that possibility and about 10-12 years I determined space travel is just too expensive and it would not be in my lifetime that we actually try to colonize the moon or Mars. Looking at SpaceX initially getting 1 out of 4 flights to launch correctly, and NASA basically using the SpaceX rockets to carry toilet paper type supplies to the space station made me feel like both SpaceX and Tesla were going to be bankrupt by 2020.
Much to my surprise SpaceX has greatly reduced the cost of travel to space, but has actually become reliable enough to send sattelites and actual humans into space with reusable rockets. This price drop has led to the option of sattelite internet being inexpensive and fast across the globe.
Tesla on the other hand, I think they get more stories and headlines. While the physics shows that using battery technology, even if powered by Natural gas power plants will require less energy over the life of the vehicle for the smaller battery cars. The Tesla cars I get most excited about (Like the next Gen Roadster) at 200K and having a 200 KWH battery, I dont think these high end luxury cars are improving the environment. But because of Tesla EVs I have seen the improvement in battery technology, and the reduction of cost in batteries. Tesla's influence has me excited about sustainable renewable energy.

Long story short, I am very excited about the future. Seeing the advancement in science, engineering, and technology helps me realize that while we write history books about wars and presidents. It seems like science and technology just continue marching forward and changing the world faster than any politician can keep up with.
