it would be fantastic even if it wasn't. I've found myself using it most of the time now. It has a lot of the tools included you'd find in the combination of Premiere, Audition, and After Effects...just not at the same scale.

It does have some different ways of doing things, so if he's really used to one way it will take some time. But you can't beat it for the price and I don't think it's even close.
