As far as I can remember opposing coaches followed by the media pointed to BYU’s age advantage
I know over the years many of us on the board have pointed to facts related to age. And how it’s only an advantage when BYU is winning.

What they neglect to mention is BYU’s history. In most of BYU's dominate years, regardless of sport, is BYU was not “old.”

BYU’s sweet sixteen run had only one returned missionary as a started, with a potential second serving a mission. Ainge, Roberts, Kite, Trumbo, etc. didn’t serve missions. There are other seasons similar to this season in basketball.

Baseball: Cory Snyder, Wally Joyner, and others on that great team didn’t serve.

Football: during the glory years the skilled position players rarely served missions. The linemen - yes. Sheide, Nielsen, Wilson, McMahon, Young, Bosco, Detmer, Sarkesian, Wilson (to date) didn’t serve missions. Neither did many of the WRs and RBs. Under Bronco this drastically changed.

My favorite graphic of age was during the 1996 MWC championship game between Wyoming and BYU. The one commentator had mentioned BYU’s age advantage. Then the graphic came up on the screen:

BYU 2-Deep: 22 years 3 months
WYO 2-Deep: 22 years 3 months

What many people didn’t know is that AFA fielded the oldest team in the WAC and MWC in several seasons (not most, but several). This was due to the prep school cadets would attend prior to enrollment into the Academy.

My brother reminded me of the above graphic the other day. Just some fun thoughts.

Go Cougars!!!
