The LR3/LR4 would be my all-time favorite family car. We put 100k+ on each of them (we had 2) and we never had any issues with them.
The new Defender brings back what was so fun with the LR3/4. The interior isn't made to make you feel posh/fancy.. its utilitarian, tough and you won't care if your kids climb/jump/eat all over it. Like the LR3/4... Its made to toss your family inside and go on an adventure.
My son has been driving the Disco II for the past 3 years with ZERO issues other than replacing worn out door locks and window motors (~$30 fixes). I wanted to sell it now that we don't have a 'dedicated driver' for it... but both my son and wife vetoed that idea. It's now the 'let's go for a weekend drive' or 'running to the store' driveway queen.
I call the local LR dealer every few months to make sure my name is still at the top of the Defender 90 buyers list 🙂
