Back when I was at BYU, I was talking with a roomate and the subject of boiled peanuts came up. He's from California and he had never tried them nor heard of them until one summer when he was working in Northern Florida.

He had stopped to get gas at an Old Country gas station and out in front of the store there was an old man sitting in a rocking chair eating something.

My roommate didn't recognize what he was eating so he asked the guy, "what are you eating?"

The guy replies: boiled peanuts

That's not what my roommate heard though............. He had not mastered understanding thick southern accents yet.

What he heard: boiled penis.

He freaked for a second and then asked, "You're eating what?"

The guy repeats himself and shows my roommate one. My roommate realizes, to his relief, he had said, "Boiled Peanuts"

I told my kids that one and they laughed so hard.

We eat them fairly frequently in Georgia.

Boiled peanuts that is.
