I get the sentiment, but we are all paying for it either way. Don't be a sucker
I especially encourage young LDS to use government assistance they are eligible for in paying for college (Pell Grants) and in paying for maternity.
A nation of responsibility and self-sufficiency would be awesome. But that is not the nation we have and its not the nation we are going to have. Rejecting government funds completely doesn't mean you are leading the way to a better world, it just means you are a sucker.
