Here are some non shooting options
if you are just trying to keep them out of your garden that creating a perimeter of chili powder or blood meal around your plants works surprisingly well. They don't like the smell and they will look elsewhere to nibble.

you can buy a rabbit spray pretty cheap and apply that. You can make one yourself. Here is a recipe I quickly found online:

Mix 2 tablespoons of cayenne pepper, 2 tablespoons of garlic powder, and a squirt of dish detergent with 20 ounces of warm water. Shake the mixture well to incorporate. Let it sit outside in the sun for a day, then put into a sprayer and apply to plant leaves. This homemade rabbit repellent will have rabbits running the other way. The mixture will need to be reapplied after rain or heavy watering.

Now if you have a problem with rabbits burrowing and living in your yard you can get rid of low hanging shrubs. This is heaven to these guys. They will almost always burrow around or near this type of growth. Getting a dog who loves being outside. So forget the little indoor yappers, and invest in a canine that loves the chase.
