Tons of logistical reasons. Biggest IMO is the flexibility in moving back a couple months (start in Oct) as opposed to
outright canceling or moving to spring. Much easier to do if you're just working with conference teams. Also makes it easier for conferences to cancel and not necessarily impact other conferences' decisions if everyone is playing conference only. I could see some conferences like Pac12 and maybe B1G canceling but SEC/ACC/Big XII pushing harder to play.
