These P5 conferences could try to argue a lot of things like act of God, etc. but none of them hold much water based on other moves/actions they are making.
Sure they may say they need to delay the season but then it only makes sense to just trim off the first 2/3/4 games of the season. Not arbitrarily restrict to conference play because all these schedules have already been set, financial arrangements made, and non-conference games occur throughout the season.
And they can't really say well, we're going to restrict to conference +1 either because that is obviously just a money grab to protect games scheduled with ND and non-con rivals. And again, no additional virus protection.
These schedules take years to arrange, balancing against 120+ other programs. Now they're going to try to shuffle the deck less than two months before the season? Yeah, I'd like to see how that's going to work out. Going to piss off a lot of fans too who have already made TONS of financial arrangements for the games on the schedule as they are.
