The AAC has only 11 schools and an ESPN media contract

I could see ESPN ask the AAC to add BYU to its 2020 conference lineup to ensure that BYU has a satisfactory schedule and to maximize TV value.

Remember, ESPN no longer owns the MWC inventory and only half the PAC 12 inventory; so BYU is a primary gateway to ESPN's 10pm ET games.
