Darin Erstad had 240 hits and a .951 OPS in 2000, The only modern player with
more hits in a single season is Ichiro who did it multiple times. Boggs also hit 240 once.

Obviously this occurred at the height of the steroid era. His WAR of 8.3 was 4th in MLB behind Pedro Martinez (In probably the greatest single season pitched by any pitcher), AROD (In his final season with the Mariners, the highest WAR of his career), and Todd Helton(also the best season of his career). Lots of other guys had career years that season, Jason Giambi and Jeff Kent were the MVPs in the best season of each of their respective careers. Nomar Garciaparra, Carlos Delgado, Andruw Jones, and Troy Glaus all had career years. Manny Ramirez had his best or second best offensive season in 2000 and Barry Bonds started taking steroids around then and it was his highest OPS total up to that point in his career. Kind of crazy that Erstad had such a good season in 2000 despite a fairly mediocre career overall.

Erstad's next highest hit total in his career was 177 and his next highest OPS was .839.

What other players have had one season in the middle of their career that was so much better than the rest of their career? And I am not talking Rookie's who pitchers figure out after 100 games.
