it was a misunderstanding. The MAC (Mid-Atlantic Conference) which is a DIII
conference has canceled all fall sports.
The MAC (Mid-American Conference) which is a D-1 conference has not to this time canceled fall sports. BYU has one matchup scheduled for football this season with a member (N. Ill.) of this conference.
Some people, starting with a NMSU influencer on twitter, had mistaken the announcement for the D3 MAC as being the D1 MAC.
