It’s crazy considering that franchise was on life support after MI: 2

But Cruise never gave up on it and pushed through getting the 3rd movie made after parting with a couple of directors. My only complaint is that I think the franchise is selling itself short by not expanding that universe and having spinoff movies with other agents.
