I am all for being cautious, but yeah, not being able to go into the hospital with a loved one is tough.
My wife had to be admitted to the emergency room a few months ago and they wouldn't let me go in with her. I was so concerned for her health and that she get help, I didn't push it, but looking back now I should have fought it more.
