my dad had surgery last month. He woke up ok, nurse left him and came back 30min
later to find him unresponsive and by most definitions dead. They did CPR and got a pulse back but he was without oxygen for too long and was brain dead and died a week later once all of the tests were conclusive he had no chance. If someone had been next to him they might have been able to detect that he wasn't breathing and gotten attention soon enough to save his life. I do wonder sometimes if a visitor being allowed could have saved his life. They only allowed one visitor for the entire time he was in his coma. My brother and I had to decide which one would get to go. Luckily in the end of life situation we got permission to have two of us in there while he passed. But it was cruel to have my brother in town and 5 minutes from the hospital and his father on life support unable to see him because i was the chosen single visitor. And yeah i wonder if someone was there tending to him after his procedure if he would still be alive. Its cruel. Dont die this year if you can. It sucks for everyone.
