That happened to me today. I only continued because I'm not a quitter.
However, through timely, strategic, aggressive pegging (my greatest strength, and I dominated in this facet, literally doubling him up), I worked my way back in and shockingly drew even at 80 (almost exactly 2/3 of the way to the finish, for those who don't know). What I assumed would be a dull monotony became intense and thrilling.
But just when things looked to be going my way, he pulled away with unbelievably good hands and ended up blowing me out. I was lucky I didn't get skunked. Considering the wild ups and downs and back and forth, it was easily the most unusual game of cribbage I've ever played.
Question. Has anyone here ever scored 29, the perfect hand, or 28? I haven't, but I've scored 24 (the next best possible score) multiple times.
