I don't think you could have picked a worse time to make this argument.
The basketball program is in great shape. The football team appears to have fielded a strong team, and Holmoe has moved mountains to make sure they at least get on the field. If they were in a conference they'd be staying home; this year is strong vindication of the decision to go independent. Across the board in the non-revenue sports BYU fields a strong, nationally competitive product.
